Tomatoes (fresh or canned), chopped fine
Cream or half-and-half
1/8 tsp. soda
Butter to taste
Salt and pepper
Put tomatoes in one pan, cream in another. Warm cream, do not boil. Add soda to cream to prevent curdling. Simmer tomatoes 5 to 10 minutes. Mix cream and tomatoes, and add a little margarine or butter. Season to taste. Serve at once.
My Aunt Opal gave me this recipe. I can remember eating this soup at Grandma Martin's house. The soup can be processed in the blender before serving if you prefer a smoother soup.
