I have been adding recipes for a while to a new cookbook so I could find them when I wanted to cook them. In the electronic age, a digital version seems to make more sense, since I can add, amend, advise, adjust, delete, and reconsider as often as I want to and you can access them if and when you please. I've included the recipes from my original cookbook which many of you have. I'm also going to be adding pictures as I retest many of these recipes. They aren't the latest thing or nouvelle cuisine. They're comfort food, good memories, treasured family recipes, and occasional treats as well as many healthier recipes I've grown to like in recent years. I encourage you to add comments, pictures, and favorite recipes to make this a real family cooking spot. It's the next best thing to sharing a meal.

Oysters in Beer

2 pints oysters
1 can beer
1/2 stick (1/4 cup) butter
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp. Lowery's seasoned salt
Tabasco sauce

Drain oysters and put in saucepan.  Pour in beer just to cover.  Simmer lightly until edges of oysters begin to curl.  Don't overcook.  Drain beer from oysters.  In the meantime, melt butter in a pan.  Add seasonings to taste.  Pour over drained oysters and serve with toothpicks.

This is Donalds recipe for great oysters.  The original recipe called for a gallon of oysters, which is a little much for all but the biggest crowd.   When we first started building our house on St. George Island, we could pick up oysters in the bay right out from our canal, so Donald had no trouble getting enough oysters to fill a large bowl half full with this delicious recipe.  No matter how many oysters there were,  the bowl would be empty in no time.
