I had been adding recipes for a while to a new cookbook so I could find them when I wanted to cook them. In the electronic age, a digital version seems to make more sense, since I can add, amend, advise, adjust, delete, and reconsider as often as I want to and you can access them if and when you please. I've included the recipes from both my original cookbook which many of you have, and additional accumulated recipes that never got published. This isn’t the latest thing or nouvelle cuisine. These recipes are comfort food, good memories, treasured family recipes, and occasional treats as well as many healthier recipes I've grown to like in recent years. I encourage you to add comments, pictures, and favorite recipes to make this a real family cooking spot. It's the next best thing to sharing a meal.

Dedication in Original Piotrowski Cookbook

I have assembled these recipes for you partly because after you left home you would often phone right
before mealtime with requests that usually began, “Mim, how do you . . .?” I also want to preserve for
you and your children a small collection of family recipes I have accumulated over the years. Finally, I
need this cookbook so I can find a recipe when I want it, because I don’t cook many of these dishes any
more except on special occasions.

Although you have heard most of the stories in this cookbook as you grew up or were a part of them, it is
always fun to read something to awaken a memory or add a new insight to a shared experience.
Cooking for you has been a pleasure (and sometimes a frustration) in my life and one of the ways I have
been able show my love for you.

In looking over them, these recipes seem a strange accumulation of Southern dishes and Northern
influences, home cooking and foreign flavors. Each recipe has been included because it was something
your Dad and I particularly liked, or you liked, or I got the recipe from someone important to me or to our
family, or for some other reason that I have tried to include in the recipe comments.

I have come to realize that this is not just a family cookbook, but that friends, who are such an
important part of our lives and with whom we have shared so many good meals and good times, are also
an essential ingredient.

Special thanks to those family and friends who shared recipes, tested, furnished feedback, proofread, and
critiqued.

As you know, this has been a work in progress for some time with”improvements” as new editions
have been printed. They are never perfect, never finished, just printed when time will allow no more
alterations. With your Dad gone, I have lost my most enthusiastic tester.  I think it’s time for the final
edition. This is it.

Hope you enjoy reading, cooking, and remembering. I love you!!

In memory of our
dear, sweet husband and father
