I have been adding recipes for a while to a new cookbook so I could find them when I wanted to cook them. In the electronic age, a digital version seems to make more sense, since I can add, amend, advise, adjust, delete, and reconsider as often as I want to and you can access them if and when you please. I've included the recipes from my original cookbook which many of you have. I'm also going to be adding pictures as I retest many of these recipes. They aren't the latest thing or nouvelle cuisine. They're comfort food, good memories, treasured family recipes, and occasional treats as well as many healthier recipes I've grown to like in recent years. I encourage you to add comments, pictures, and favorite recipes to make this a real family cooking spot. It's the next best thing to sharing a meal.

Chocolate Trifle

1 recipe brownies (with or without nuts)
Chocolate pudding (instant)
Hershey's chocolate syrup
Cool Whip

Make brownies.  Allow to cool completely.  Break into bite size chunks.  Spread a layer of brownie chunks on bottom of glass bowl or trifle bowl.  Drizzle some chocolate syrup on brownies.  Add a layer of chocolate pudding, then a layer of cool whip.  Repeat, finishing with cool whip.  Save a few brownie crumbs for top, or shave semi-sweet chocolate curls onto top.  You can use cooked chocolate pudding, but it must be chilled first or it will melt the cool whip when you assemble the trifle.

This is a recipe from my friend Marilyn Surdakowski, who calls it "Death by Chocolate."  Marilyn and I both suffered from an incurable sweet tooth.  She was also one of the members of the Cursillo group that is so special to me.  Her name for the dessert is somewhat ominous since she died of a heart attack in her 60s.
